Moving Guide

Cleveland Moving Checklist

A useful moving plan starts with the inventory, the route and access at both properties. Use this checklist for a house, apartment or condo move in Cleveland or nearby suburbs, then confirm the details with your moving team.

As soon as you know your moving dates

  • Write down pickup and delivery locations, preferred dates and any flexibility. Explain if keys, a lease end or a building reservation limits the time available.
  • Make a room-by-room inventory. Include furniture, boxed belongings, appliances and items in the basement, garage or storage areas. Flag unusually heavy or awkward items for review.
  • Decide whether you need transport, packing, loading help for your own vehicle, or junk removal. Ask which tasks are included in the written quote.
  • For an apartment or condo, ask building management about elevator reservations, loading entrances, move-in or move-out time windows and any documents they require from a mover. Requirements vary by property; do not assume a reservation is included. See residential moving for how a house, apartment or condo move is planned.

Before requesting your quote

Photos and access details help the team understand the job. Send clear views of the items and carrying route through the Move Planner; keep personal paperwork and account details out of photos.

Information to have ready

  • Number and type of large items
  • Approximate box count
  • Stairs at each stop
  • Elevator availability and reservation times
  • Distance from the parking or loading spot to the door
  • Narrow doorways, tight turns and items that may need disassembly
  • Items needing packing or special review
  • Preferred date and flexibility

Confirm where the vehicle can legally stop and whether parking or loading arrangements are needed with the property manager or responsible local office. A nearby parking space is not automatically an authorized loading area.

During the week before your move

  • Sort belongings into move, keep-with-you and remove groups. Request junk removal separately if needed, and confirm which items are accepted before setting them aside for pickup.
  • Pack manageable boxes, tape them securely and label the destination room. Mark fragile contents without covering lifting points or making boxes too heavy to carry safely. See packing services if you would rather have this handled.
  • Keep daily essentials, keys, medication, chargers and important documents in a bag that stays with you.
  • Photograph furniture connections before disassembly and keep hardware in labeled bags. Ask the team what disassembly or reassembly is included before taking items apart.
  • Confirm utilities, building access and contact arrangements for both addresses. Reconfirm the scope if your inventory or access changes.

On moving day

  • Keep entrances, stairs and hallways clear. For rain or snow, discuss a dry, clear access route and how the team will handle conditions before work begins.
  • Walk through the inventory and point out items that are staying, fragile items and any access changes.
  • Keep children and pets away from the carrying route. Keep valuables and your essentials bag with you.
  • Before leaving, check closets, cabinets, storage spaces and the agreed rooms. At delivery, explain room destinations and raise any questions with the team while the job is being reviewed.

Questions to settle before booking

Request the written scope, pricing basis, minimum time if applicable, travel or access charges, payment and deposit requirements, cancellation rules and how to report damage. Confirm the date and service with the team; sending a quote request does not book a move. Our common questions cover pricing, booking terms and preparation in more detail.
